Title
Queen's Larder public house and buildings in Queen Square
Description
A view of the Grade II listed four-storey Queen's Larder public house, 1 Queen Square, Holborn, and the neighbouring houses at numbers 2-3. Turning into Cosmo Place can be seen to the left of the pub. The eighteenth-century buildings contain various Georgian architectural features, such a tall, small-paned sash windows (some with net curtains), door frames with a flat pediment (the pub and number 3), a semi-circular fanlight (number 2) and a garland motif on the pediment above the door frame (number 3). Other features include drain pipes, chimney stacks and chimney pots. In Cosmo Place can be seen the pub's nineteenth-century front with pub sign. A further sign with the pub's name and 'Whitbread's Ale and Stout' written on it is attached to the Queen Square side just above the metal railings. Corrugated iron covers the ground floor iron railings at number 2. At the end of the row is the late nineteenth-century office building at 4-5 Queen Square. The pub and number 2 survive, but a twentieth-century office building has replaced the buildings on the right.
