Description
View of peace celebrations on St Leonard's Road, Poplar, potentially dating this image to Saturday 19th July 1919. Children sitting at tables along the middle of the road, with adults standing, some holding plates of food. Everyone is smartly dressed and the street is festooned with British flags and bunting. The large building in the background is probably a warehouse belonging to the Spratt's Patent Limited dog biscuit company. This, coupled with the distinctive bend in the road, indicates that the photo was probably taken close to number 186 St Leonard's Road, looking north. None of these buildings exist and the area has been redeveloped with a park on the left and new residential housing on the right.
