Description
A view of the front elevations of shop buildings at 21-23 Old Bond Street, Mayfair. All have retail space on the ground-floor and other accommodation above. Number 21 to the right is the premises of Union Castle shipping line and it has an advertisement for South African shipping line Safmarine in the window. It is five storeys high plus dormered mansard and is five windows wide. The ground-floor carries the name of William Sorsby Limited, the centre for oriental art and books. The facade includes a juliet balcony running the full width of the first-floor and Corinthian columns at the second with a sculpted head at the top of each bay. An estate agent's board offering offices to let can be seen at the third floor. At number 23 the shop is to let and appears empty but carries the name of the Bahamas Islands. The building is four storeys high and three windows wide. The middle window on the first-floor is topped by a pediment. Dating from the early eighteenth century, number 23 and 23A Old Bond Street was Grade II listed in 1989; listing number 1264009. All the buildings still exist.
