Description
A view of the front elevation of shop and office buildings at 42-50 Old Bond Street, Mayfair, and the corner with Piccadilly. The ground-floor of the corner building at 48-50 has the airline Qantas to the left and Ciro pearls to the right. Between them is a decorated entrance. Further along is a branch of National Westminster Bank. To its right are SAC Freres, Kirkby & Bunn jewellers at 44 and fine art dealer Thomas Agnew & Sons at 43 with the royal warrant above the door. Hairdresser Michelle's occupies the first-floor of number 43. Number 44 is notable for its classical styling, pedimented gable and two life-sized carved nude figures standing as caryatids at either side of the second floor. The corner building of five main storeys plus attic is seven bays wide in the Old Bond Street elevation. The Portland stone facade is decorated with Jacobean designs. Traffic is heading south on Old Burlington Street including an Austin FX4 London taxi with registration number EGK387J. A Jaguar Mark II saloon car with registration number FVE44D is parked outside the bank. Many pedestrians can be seen. Dating from 1905, number 48-50 Old Bond Street including 57-59 Piccadilly was Grade II listed in 1971; listing number 1265704. Dating from 1906, number 44 Old Bond Street was Grade II listed in 1987; listing number 1225468.
