The London County Council (LCC) and Greater London Council (GLC) historically kept a photo archive of London's streets and a complimentary collection of photographs recording local authority responsibilities. The photographs of local authority responsibilities contain images of public buildings and spaces - including schools, hospitals, public open spaces, fire stations, police stations and museums - as well as images of special events. The photographs in this collection span a century, from the 1880s to the most recent examples from the 1980s.
This gallery shows a sample of those images, from a collection of approximately 250,000 photographs. Click on the Collections page to view more (LCC Photograph Library), try searching or use the London Picture Map to focus on a location.
The LMA initially worked on this collection in partnership with New Deal of the Mind, a Future Jobs Fund initiative to get young people between 16 and 24 working with creative industries.
