The images in this gallery are a mixture of prints and glass-plate negatives from the photograph collections held at London Metropolitan Archives. They cover the themes of boats, buildings, life, Tower Bridge, waterways and work. The photographs range in date from the 1880s to the 1940s. Very little is known about the glass negatives. Found in the LMA negative store in individual glassine bags around 15 years ago, this small set of images (size 3"x2") remained uncatalogued due to the mystery surrounding their provenance.
The images seen here are a selection of those used in an exhibition, London in Black and White, held in the West Walkway of Tower Bridge in 2011. The iconic setting was ideal for this fantastic set of images of river life.
