The entertainments scrapbook shows content from a series of four boxes of ephemera from the nineteenth century. These are largely theatrical playbills and posters including the circus, side shows and curiosities as they were then viewed in the language of the period.
There are a number of fine examples of advertisements from the show's of Maskelyne and Cooke who performed at the Egyptian Hall on Piccadilly, Westminster. It was known as the 'Home of Mystery'. In an age before cinema, the Victorian's loved spectacle in all its dramatic forms.
