Cafe in Park Road
This view shows the building on the corner of Park Road and St Johns Road in the Hampton Wick conservation of Richmond-upon-Thames, seen here trading as Ted's Cafe. It is believed to have been built by Robert Belchamber in 1850, who subsequently opened it as the Prince of Wales Beer Tavern and it has been used as a coffee tavern or a cafe until the 1970s. Currently, it is operating as an office of David Howard Chartered Accountants. It is listed locally as a Building of Townscape Merit. Hoarding and large painted signage can be seen offering TEAS EATS DRINKS SMOKES, and the PEPSI cola logo appears repeatedly. As sign also points down St Johns Road towards FWD Motors. The view also offers view down Park Road west towards Bushy Park, showing some of the character of the centre of this historic village. The Assembly Rooms at 12 Park Road on the corner of the junction with School Road can be seen with a DANCING sign, still visible today, the building now running as Kelly's Dance Studio. A number of cars can be seen parked in the road, and cyclist is just visible beyond the Assembly Rooms.
