Description
View of the front elevations of the Atkinson's Building at 2-4 Burlington Gardens and 24 Old Bond Street, Mayfair. It was built for Atkinson's perfume company in 1926 to designs by Vincent Harris. The five-storey, Portland stone, Gothic revival building has Arts and Crafts detailing with twin bays and a central balcony. There is an octagonal-shaped spire visible, which houses a carillon musical instrument. There are ground-floor shops with arcade-style display windows. The shop to the right is trading as "Ferragamo", a ladies fashion store at 24 Old Bond Street. Number 2 Burlington Gardens is "Hawes and Curtis Ltd" menswear shop and "James Fox Cigar Merchant". Number 4 is an empty shop with a sign advertising the lease for sale. The whole building is Grade II listed, listing number 1266364. To the left is a partial view of the northern entrance to the Burlington Arcade. A shop trading as the Irish Linen Co. can be seen. The Burlington Arcade is Grade II listed, listing number 1066338. A pedestrian can be seen looking in a shop window. There is a Vauxhall Viva car parked in the street. To the extreme right is a partial view of the Tiffany clock above the entrance to 25 Old Bond Street. This is Grade II listed, listing number 1225399.
