Description
View of a first-floor back office at 816 to 818 High Road, Tottenham. The room is divided by a counter with a glazed screen. The office has a pedestal desk equipped with an adding machine, filing boxes and items of stationery. A woman in a red top can be seen on the telephone in front of a computer terminal and holding a baby in one arm whilst another similarly dressed woman with gold earrings looks on. Items in the room include an electric fire in front of the boarded-up fire place, filing trays and folders, filing baskets, index filing boxes with a charity collection box and a leaflet display unit on the counter along with poster advertising insurance cover for travel and home services. Personal items are displayed on the mantle shelf which includes 'Babycham' deer figurines and other reindeer models, a clock, a post card and Christmas card along with a desk calendar. A poster featuring a polar bear and a slogan 'To solve problems close your eyes until they go away' is hung on the red-wood clad chimney breast, beneath an electric clock. Other personal items in the room include a Dimple whiskey jar in use as a coin collection box and a packet of Rothmans king-size cigarettes.
