Description
View of the Gate House to the Water Works on Hornsey High Street in Haringey. In the mid-nineteenth century it was decided that the course of the New River would be changed and the implementation of both the 1848 Public Health Act and the 1852 Metropolis Water Act, meant the New River Company could begin construction of the Hornsey Water Works. In 1859 the Sluice House and Gate House (pictured here), the original Engine House, filter beds, basin and reservoir were constructed.
