Title
House in Grosvenor Hill
Description
Front and side elevation of 4 Grosvenor Hill, Wimbledon. A large six-bay wide detached villa dating from 1863. Grosvenor Hill is named after Thomas Grosvenor MP, who rented a house in the area during the early-nineteenth century. Until the 1860s this area adjoining Wimbledon Village was open fields, but by 1865 this was a short road lined by large detached villas. Number 4 is one of only two to survive. The villa has since been converted into apartments; 4a Langley House and 4b Century House. This building was proposed but rejected for local listing with the London Borough of Merton. It does however lie within the Wimbledon West Conservation Area.
