Henley's factory in Pier Road
Description
Front elevation of the derelict former Henley's factory, Pier Road, North Woolwich. W.T. Henley Telegraph Works specialised in the development of submarine telegraph cables. In 1859 Henley spent £8,000 building a factory at North Woolwich beside the Thames. This section of the factory building would have been an addition at some point after 1896. The factory at North Woolwich suffered repeated damage during the war years and was eventually closed in 1959 when the company was bought by AEI. It has since been demolished.
