Alliance Road, Plumstead, was developed during the interwar years on the site of the brickworks in Wickham Valley between Woolwich Cemetery and Bostall Woods. This view shows part of a terrace of early twentieth century maisonettes which still stand today toward the north end of the road, in particular numbers 4, 4a, 6, 6a, 8, and 8a. A young girl is shown standing in one of the entrances to the right of view, and a motion blurred image suggests she is playing with a friend or sibling. A maturing tree is shown planted in the street. The ornamented surrounds to the windows and entrances, and the pinnacled cupolas above the full height window bays present a certain grandeur, although the discoloured surfaces and crumbling low front boundary wall indicate neglectful maintenance. The frontages of the entire terrace have since been rendered and painted and glazing units modernised, and the cupolas removed, but the ornate entrance and window surrounds can still be seen today.
