Regent Street at Heddon Street
Description
133-141 Regent Street, west side, West End, looking north by Heddon Street. Regent Street is named after George, the Prince Regent (later George IV) and was designed by architect John Nash c1813 as one of the first planned developments in London. The street was completely redeveloped in a unified style from 1895 to 1927 under the control of the Crown Estate. 133-141 Regent Street is a Grade II listed building, listed 1973, listing number 1235119, and forms the south end of Heddon House (133-167 Regent Street and 17-18 New Burlington Street). Built between 1910-1922 by Sir Henry Tanner, it replaced the Nash terrace though some original basements remain. The four-storey block with attics and dormers is faced in Portland stone and has domes at north and south ends. The corner building at 133-135 is occupied by the Midland Bank, with a variety of retail outlets beyond including Wilson & Gill jewellers and a Yugoslavia travel company. 133-141 Regent Street is still extant as of 2022 and within a conservation area. Heddon Street is now pedestrianised.
