Title
Greystock in Peek Crescent
Description
Front elevation of Greystock at 5 Peek Crescent, Wimbledon, a large detached house dating from 1901. The house lies behind a high brick wall with iron gates. The house was formerly occupied by the Minter family, building contractors: Sir Frederick Albert Minter and Lady Greeta Constance West and their son Frederick George Minter MBE. In 1964 the house was used as a location for a film, a psychological thriller titled Seance on a Wet Afternoon. The director was Brian Forbes and the film starred Kim Stanley, Richard Attenborough, Margaret Lacey and Marie Burke. The building sits within the Merton Council conservation area and was added to the London Borough of Merton local (non-statutory) list of buildings of historical or architectural interest in February 1991. Peek Crescent takes its name from Sir Henry Peek who was the last resident of Wimbledon House, a large estate on Parkside, Wimbledon. The Peek family owned the Peek Freans biscuit business.
