This view shows two of the historic shop-fronted buildings on the north side of Thames Street in the Hampton Village conservation of Richmond-upon-Thames, none of which appear to be in use as shops in the photograph, nor indeed in the present day, but at one time they included a coffee house and a grocer's shop. Most prominent in view with the oriel window and ornate parapet is 28 Thames Street, listed locally as a Building of Townscape Merit. To the right, 26 Thames Street is eighteenth-century with nineteenth-century shop window and was Grade II listed in 1983, listing number 1262001. The brick building at number 30 to the left of view is believed to be twentieth-century and together with number 32 used as commercial premises. It has since been rebuilt or remodelled and is in residential use. A Jaguar XJ series saloon is shown parked on the hard stand in front of number 30 next to a NO PARKING sign on its wall. A concrete lamp post in front must have presented some manoeuvring challenges and its road parking sign displays weekday peak-time restrictions. A woman in a light raincoat is walking past number 30.
