Description
Sydney Road is an estate of late-Victorian houses off Church Road in the Sheen Road conservation area of Richmond-upon-Thames. This view shows one of three blocks of three-storey terraced houses at 33-36 on the west side of Sydney Road, number 33 being in the foreground. The end of terrace at number 32 is just visible cropped to the right. The frontages of the outer houses of each terrace are perpendicular to those of the inner houses and their entrances may have been flush, although number 33's is shown with a single-storey extension with a traditional parapet facing towards the road. The frontages of the houses are generally unaltered, although number 36's second floor window just visible through the trees has been moved and replaced with a modern frame. Some of the houses have been extended to the rear and the inward facing houses including numbers 32 and 33 have had two-storey extensions added. Most have had the front gardens turned into car ports, so losing the mature trees shown, and number 33's patterned brick boundary wall has also been removed. Two Morris Travellers are shown parked in number 33's driveway and hard stand. In the foreground, the rear of a Honda Civic hatchback displays a disabled driver sticker in its tailgate window. A raincoated pedestrian is just visible beyond.
