Title
Hadley Lodge in Hadley Green Road after fire
Description
A view of the front elevation of Hadley Lodge in Hadley Green Road, Monken Hadley, after a fire. The image shows fire-damaged walls and windows of the house, which had two storeys plus dormered attic. The elevation included a porch with four Ionic columns, described in Nikolaus Pevsner's "Buildings of England, Hertfordshire" as "handsome". The grand house, which had been listed, was destroyed by fire in 1981 and a house of the same name completed on the site about 1995. A gatehouse with clocktower and turreted corner was built on the location in the image with the new house on land behind.
