Title
Wyldes Farm in Hampstead Way
Description
A view of the east elevation of Wyldes in Hampstead Way, Hampstead Garden Suburb. To the left is a converted barn extension where Sir Raymond Unwin worked from 1906 to 1940 while supervising the laying out of Hampstead Garden Suburb. Climbing plants grow up the walls and it is seen across a lawn. A blue plaque on the facade of the earlier Wyldes Farm main house behind says it was the home of painter John Linnell (1792-1882) and William Blake (1757-1827), the poet and artist. For a lobby entry house of its type, the house is regarded as a rare survival on the fringes of London. Dating from seventeenth century or earlier, Wyldes Farm, also known as Old Wyldes, was Grade II* listed in 1963; listing number 1191239. The house was divided at some point and Wyldes, seen in the picture, was separately Grade II* listed in 1983; listing number 1359046. A Hillman Avenger Estate car with registration number NJB391R and a Volkswagen camper van are parked next to the house.
