A view of The Bothy, a garden house in the original grounds of Avenue House, an Italianate villa at 17 East End Road, East Finchley. The image shows castellated buildings of two storeys joined by single storey elements. They are viewed across garden areas. The estate was named Stephens House and Gardens in 2014 after Henry Charles Stephens, heir to the Stephens Ink Company, who bought the property in 1874 and developed it. The Bothy encompassed summerhouses, living accommodation, fish pond and cart storage as well as a walled garden. The Bothy site was chosen under the guidance of the gardens' designer, Robert Marnock, as its setting is integral to the design. Dating from 1882 when Stephens had the grounds landscaped, The Bothy was Grade II listed in 1999, listing number 1387534. By the early 2000s, The Bothy had been neglected but it has been restored and is the home of Terapia, a charity that offers counselling and psychotherapy.
