Description
A view of a lodge and stables beside Avenue House, an Italianate villa at 17 East End Road, East Finchley. The lodge, at the left, is a two-storey detached house with irregular fenestration. It is now used as offices. The stables building is single storey with some dormers in the roof and taller towers at each end. Dating from about 1880 and built for Henry Charles Stephens, owner of Avenue House and heir to the Stephens Ink Company, the former stables were Grade II listed in 1999, listing number 1387521. The stables now house a cafe named Inky's Stables after Stephens's nickname. Also dating from about 1880, the lodge, probably by Rodgers Field, was Grade II listed as 17 East End Road in 1999, listing number 1387520. The estate around Avenue House was named Stephens House & Gardens in 2014.
