On 6 February 2022 Queen Elizabeth II commemorated 70 years since her accession to the throne. During her lifetime Elizabeth II has undertaken many engagements in London and some of these have been captured in the photographs available on the London Picture Archive. These include a visit in 1945 to parts of the war damaged capital, a visit to Trinity almshouses, Mile End in 1962 and to the Festival Hall on London’s South Bank on the occasion of her 25th wedding anniversary in 1972. Royal ceremonial events are represented by the decorations of buildings for the queen’s Silver Jubilee in 1977.
