William Hogarth (1697-1764) was a painter and engraver famously known for his series: 'A Rake's Progress' , 'Marriage a la mode' and 'Industry and Idleness' which are represented here. Born in Bartholomew Close, City of London he got ideas from the characters of London street life that he encountered. Often representing bawdy scenes, but these are also moral tales executed in a satirical manner.
